AMMAN

Amman

Amman is a welcoming city in Jordan of two distinct areas; the arty Western Amman with bars, malls and galleries, and the more conservative Eastern Amman. A nod towards the traditional way of life is present in the mosques and souqs, giving you a direct glimpse into the Jordanian way of life. Towering over the city stands The Amman Citadel which is majestically lit up by night. It hosts events throughout the holy month of Ramadan and features a souk selling handmade craft items and traditional food.

The captivating city of Amman holds a number of museums and galleries, bringing you ever closer to the country’s rich history. The Jordan Museum tells Jordan’s story with relics including the oldest-known human statues, Dead Sea scrolls and remains from the areas, while Darat al-Funun houses contemporary art with a busy calendar of events, talks and films. Just next to it sits the excavated ruins of a Byzantine Church, making it a place where the present meets its colourful past.

Ahmad Ebdah, General Manager, recommends

“Make full use of a day spare in Amman to visit six of Jordan’s highlights on this private trip. After hotel pickup in Amman, travel south by private air-conditioned vehicle to Madaba, famous for its medieval mosaics. After your roughly 1-hour journey, visit St. George’s Church, home to the famous Mosaic Map. Admire the 6th-century floor mosaic depicting the Holy Land of the time and view the mosaic at the nearby Church of the Martyrs. Then, travel to Mount Nebo, where Moses is believed to have seen the Promised Land and died. Explore independently or hire a guide, admiring the church’s floor mosaics and the views over the Jordan Valley. From here, head to El-Maghtas on the River of Jordan, the believed site of Jesus’ baptism, and then continue to Al-Mujib Siq, a scenic river canyon hiking trail (April to October only). Hire a guide here to hike through the river along the canyon base, and after an optional swim in the waterfall pool at the end, trek back to the entrance, and drive onward to the Dead Sea. After time at a Dead Sea beach to float in the salt-rich waters, return to Amman”.
